Shenzhen general background
Shenzhen, which can be also called as Pengchen city, Shumchun, Shamchun and SZ, is one of the four first-tired cities in China, and the other three cities are Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai. Shenzhen has a total area of 1996.85 square kilometers and has a population of over 10,000 thousands. GDP of the city in the year 2014 is about 1,600,000 million RMB. Shenzhen is famous as international garden city, Art and design city and Piano city. Shenzhen is very close to Hong Kong, and the latter one is one of the world finance centers. Shenzhen city is the first special economic zone after Chinese economic reform. This essay will introduce daily life in Shenzhen city in terms of four aspects: culture and public transport.

Culture

Mandarin is the most common local language in Shenzhen and Cantonese is the second popular one in this city. For foreign languages, many public service institutions and business organizations can provide English services and a large number of young generations can be able to speak English. The city also has temples for Buddhism, Isiam, Catholicism and Christianity. Shenzhen also has a large number of museums, theatres, cultural heritages, public gardens and more than 600 public libraries. The city is famous for its exhibitions in China, and watch exhibitions has been ranked in the top three of the world professional ones. Besides, traditional industries, such as furniture and jewels, are gaining popularity in the world. In the year 2011, Shenzhen successfully hold the 26th International University Sports Federation and over 150 countries joined the event.

 

Shenzhen has 16 worldwide sister cities in the USA, EU countries, Africa and Asia. Some of them included: Houston in the USA (since the year 1986), Brescia in Italy (since the year 1991), Brisbane in Australia (since the year 1992), Vienne in France (since the year 1994), and Nürnberg in Germany (since the year 1997).

 

China is famous for its food in the world, and this is also the truth for Shenzhen city. As one of the top immigration cities in China, food culture of the city has a combination of various Chinese food types and tastes, such as chafing dish, noodles and dumplings. Visitors have millions of opportunities to explore their preferring ones in food courts, which spread all over the city.

 

 

Public transport
Shenzhen has a widespread and quite strong public transports that included various types: highway, railway, aviation, ports, underground, bus and taxis. Railways in this city has connections to almost every individual cities in China. Shenzhen Baoan international airport, which been set up in the year 1991, is one of the top 100 most competitive airports in the world. Shenzhen port ranks the top four of the world ports for its container throughout capacity for the past nine years. Since Shenzhen is vary close to Hong Kong, visitors can easily transport between these two cities by simply applying for transport visas. Huanggang port has a 24 hours clearance policy. By the end of the year 2014, Shenzhen has sets up a well-connected underground network, and the city is the fifth one that has underground network in China (the other four are in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou). The city has five main underground routes with a capacity flow of over daily 1,800,000 persons. By the end of the year 2010, Shenzhen has 756 bus routes with a capacity flow of annual 2,400 millions persons.

 

Scientific research, healthcare and housing
Shenzhen is one of the top 10 most competitive scientific research Chinese cities according to 《Nature》. In the year 2011, the city has a total number of 11826 patent of inventions at domestic level, which is the No. 2 in all Chinese cities. Shenzhen has an over 1187,000 million RMB annual output value of high advanced productions. By the end of the year 2012, Shenzhen has a total number of 2008 healthcare institutions. For the housing aspect, the city has a wide range of housing agencies for first-hand, second-hand and flats renting. For example, Nanshan district attracts lost of foreign investors to settle down because of its breathtaking sea views.
