CIFIT Highlights Investment on New Silk Road

ATAHK reads from Xinhua net that the 18th annual China International Fair for Investment and Trade got underway today in the southeastern coastal city of Xiamen.


President Xi Jinping proposed the creation of a Silk Road Economic Belt and a 21st century Maritime Silk Road in 2013. Investment opportunities in the countries along the ancient routes will highlight the four-day fair.


Thousands of government officials and business leaders are on hand at the fair as they seek new investment opportunities for their countries and companies.


Vice Premier Wang Yang also met with representatives from multinational companies to enhance mutual cooperation.


One aim of this year’s fair is to promote investment among countries along the ancient Land and Maritime Silk Roads. As the Guest Country of Honor, Malaysia is bringing its featured projects.


"The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road is expected to facilitate trade and investment between China and other Southeast Asian countries. The silk road economic belt will boost trade and monetary cooperation. It will also improve, people to people exchanges. Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is the Guest Province of Honor and it hopes to attract more domestic and foreign investors with its featured products," said Datuk Ter Leong Yap, deputy president of Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Malaysia.


"With the building of the Silk Road economic belt, we aim to introduce our trade and logistics projects, E-commerce platforms to foreign investors. Through these channels, more of our rich oil and gas reserve,mining resources and featured agricultural products will be exported," said Jia Ping, vice mayor of Bayingol Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture.


Many senior officials from Xinjiang have come to the fair to promote their projects. About 932 institutions from 110 countries and territories are expected to participate.


Forums concerning investment in the Silk Road projects will be held during the next three days. Numerous countries, including Russia, Australia and the United States, will host promotional activities during the fair as they seek investment opportunities with China and other nations.
