ATAHK reads from Xinhua News that Sales of U.S. new homes in August hit the highest level since 2008, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. For details, please refer to the following news from Xinhua News on September 24th:
Sales of new single-family homes jumped 18 percent from July to 504,000 units in August. The Commerce Department also revised up July's figures to 427,000 from its initial estimate of 412,000.
The median price of new houses stood at 275,600 U.S. dollars in August.
The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of August was 203,000 units, which represented a supply of 4.8 months at the current sales rate. That was down from a 5.6 months' supply in July and was the lowest level since June 2013.
New home sales, though accounting for only a small share of total sales in the housing market, still have an important impact on job creation and household consumption.
A separate report from the National Association of Realtors showed that sales of existing U.S. homes, which account for about 90 percent of total home sales, fell 1.8 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted figure of 5.05 million units.
