Hong Kong stocks close up 0.35 pct

ATAHK reads from Xinhua News that Hong Kong stocks closed up 84. 54 points, or 0.35 percent to 23,921.61 points on Wednesday. For details, please refer to the following news from Xinhua News on September 24th:


The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,788.98 and 24, 016.41. Turnover totaled 75.24 billion HK dollars (about 9.71 billion U.S. dollars).


The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 147.96 points, or 1. 40 percent, to close at 10,716.76.


Three of the four sub-indices gained ground. The Utilities sub- index rose the most at 1.21 percent, followed by the Finance, which added 0.36 percent, the Commerce & Industry at 0.35 percent, while the Properties dipped 0.06 percent.


Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, lowered 0.66 percent to close at 82.30 HK dollars. Its local unit Hang Seng Bank ended flat at 128.50 HK dollars. Bank of East Asia, another Hong Kong's major bank, rose 0. 15 percent to 32.50 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX gained 0.86 percent to 176.30 HK dollars.


Local developers closed mixed. Hang Lung Properties moved up 0. 64 percent to 23.60 HK dollars. Henderson Land, another major developer in Hong Kong, lost 0.84 percent to 53.15 HK dollars. Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, gained 0.37 percent to 135.20 HK dollars. Sun Hung Kai Properties lowered 0.26 percent to 116.50 HK dollars.


Mainland-based financial stocks ended higher. Bank of China moved up 1.4 percent to 3.62 HK dollars. Bank of Communications went up 0.7 percent to 5.71 HK dollars. China Construction Bank rose 1.42 percent to 5.70 HK dollars. ICBC increased 1.19 percent to 5.09 HK dollars.


As for energy stocks, PetroChina rose 1.96 percent to 10.40 HK dollars. CNOOC closed climbed 1.43 percent to 14.16 HK dollars. Sinopec surged 2.31 percent to 7.09 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars)
