STRATEGIC GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION
Located at the edge of Nanhai and adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau, the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone (hereafter ‘Qianhai’) sits to the west of Shekou peninsula in Shenzhen and to the east of the Pearl River Delta estuary. Encircled by the Shuangjie River, Moon Bay Avenue, Mawan Avenue and Qianhai Bay, it covers an area measuring 15 square kilometres, all from reclaimed land. Qianhai is connected to the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
Qianhai stands at the commercial crossroads of some of the world’s largest economies. For example, it is only 30 minutes away from downtown Hong Kong. Those with new inventions or products can get them manufactured and distributed in the Pearl River Delta in less than one week for half the usual cost.
STRATEGIC POSITIONING
Qianhai is a modern demonstration of the innovative cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong to create a modern service industry zone. The State Council approved the overall development plan for the Shenzhen-Hong Kong modern service industry cooperation zone in Qianhai on August 26, 2010. The aim is to develop Qianhai into the ‘demonstration area of Guangdong-Hong Kong innovation cooperation in modern industry’. It was also determined that Qianhai should be built and developed at a high standard. The cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong puts into practice new approaches to Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation.
By accumulating new experiences in scientific development and building a new growth platform, the area can lead development in Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta for the next 30 years.
Qianhai offers four functions:
